After building a simple structure for the MIP I used the weekend to make additional parts that can be used together with the FMC-stand.
I recomend that you use MDF with a minimum-width of 10mm. I have used 8 pieces of MDF as shown in the picture below:
As you might notice the sidewalls are longer than the cockpit. You have a 10 cm sidewall towards the seats. If you look at pictures from B737 cockpits you will see that there actually is a sidewall. It also gives to other benefits: First of all it makes it easier to build/integrate the sides of the cockpit later on. And second it helps “wrapping you in” giving a better cockpit-feel.
This video shows my MIP-structure (without the top-plate).
As you might be able to see from the video I ended up with making additional cuts in plate number 2 in order to be able to fit the screens. Now that I am writing this I am thinking that perhaps I just could have moved the walls to fit between the screens. But at the time that did not occur to me…
Another thing that is missing on my drawings but you can see in the video is that I have drilled large holes so wires can be transferred between the different sections. Don’t forget that. 🙂
