FSC Throttle Kaput – and repaired

I bought a used FSC Throttle a few years from a guy here in Denmark. It was quite old at that point – around 8 years. When I got it hole none of the potentiometers were working. So I replaced them. And from there things just slowly stopped working. First I had to disconnect / reconnect the throttle a few times in order to have Prosim737 recognize it. Then my flaps handle stopped working and finally the entire unit just died.
The flaps handle is a somewhat complex solution with 4 optical sensors registrering the position af the handle.

I Worte FSC in Italy and they were very kind and provided me with software to test what was wrong. When I connected the throttle I heard the USB Connected sound and it showed up in Windows. But neither Prosim737 or the FSC software picked up the throttle. Conclusion by FSC the Motherboard was fried and had to be repaired.
I head stories before about repairing FSC throttles costing a massive €500+ so I was a bit worried. But FSC mentioned around €130. Add to that the shipping back to Denmark and European VAT and I ended up paying €202.

I think it is a fair price. €200 to repair a 10 years old unit. I mean – things do break. The control boards on the FSC Throttles might break more often than other control boards. I least I have heard about others with a similar problem. But as mentioned, I think it is a fair price and now hopefully I have a working throttle for another 10 years.
