Merry Christmas

So testing my new yoke I have started hopping around a part of the world that I really enjoy: Northern Norway.

I have been to Northern Norway a few times in real life. It is truly an amazing area. As the distancens are great and not always easily accessible there are many small regional airpots in the area.

Good thing this is a simulator you can do thing that never was allowed in real life like putting the B737 down on the smallest strips normally only served by turbo props like Vadsø (ENVD) waaaaay up north in Norway close to the Russian border.

Based at Alta (ENAT) I really enjoy going back and forth to the very small regional airports. Above Vadsø Lufthavn (ENVD). The short runway would never see a B737 in real life under normal circumstances. Good thing it is a simulator. After two go arounds I managed to slam the 48.000 kg on to the tarmac. Autobrake set at “3” and 27kt headwind made the aircraft stop well short of the runway end. Phew. 🙂

Those Northern airports in Norway is really fun. Getting back the Visual approach to Alta RWY 29 is one of the best approaches in the world! Tight and narrow right turn over the mountains. Level out at 500″ make it stable and touch down right after. Wow! I really recommend everyone that likes hand-flying to try out the ENAT circle to land RWY 29. aligning with the RWY at 200″ after a 180 deg right turn is pretty cool.

Here is a video of a Widerøe Dash 8-100 making that final part of the turn. Those Widerøe pilots really deserve the outmost respect They can fly anywhere is all kind of weather.

From Alta there are about a few handfuls of small regional airports that provides a lot of fun. Stunning nature and sometimes challenging weather. They might better suited for turboprops. But as long we are having fun in the simulator it really provides a challenge to hit that narrow strip.

I am having fun. And I wish you all a merry Christmas. Here is a video of how it should be done at Vadsø.
